The cruise of wide-open spaces. The Radama archipelago must be earned — six hours under sail to Kalakajoro and its nomad fishermen — and rewards with deserted beaches, old coconut plantations, fish-rich waters and the kindness of the last villages.
The finale is legendary: a dinghy ride up the Baramahamay mangrove, then Nosy Iranja, two green islands joined by a ribbon of white sand.
Embarkation, snorkelling on the Tanikely reef, lunch on board then a four-hour sail to Russian Bay, an ideal overnight anchorage.
Six hours under sail to the first Radama island: a superb beach, a nomad fishing village, and for the brave the walk to the dhow-builders’ village.
The old coconut plantations of Antany Mora, a swim, then Nosy Valiha: varied corals, fish-rich waters, a walk in the greenery and sunset drinks.
Sailing into the mouth of the Baramahamay river: wild scenery, a welcoming village, and a dinghy ride deep into the mangrove and its mysterious wildlife.
The turtle island: two lush islands joined by a white sandbank. Swim, lunch on board, then back to Nosy Be — landing around 5 pm.
