Seven days heading south, into the North-West’s least-visited archipelago. The Tanikely reserve opens the show — groupers, stingrays, manta rays, turtles — before Kalakajoro, the Radama’s main dive base.
The highlights: Greg’s Wall and its cave, Black Wall — an astonishing forest of black coral —, Nosy Kivinjy’s Sugar Loaf, and the “5-metre shoal”, where we go looking for whale sharks and manta rays.
Recommended season October to June, water 25–30°C, visibility medium to good depending on the season, depths from 15 to 55 metres.
First dive in the Nosy Tanikely underwater reserve: corals, groupers, stingrays, manta rays, turtles. A second dive at 22 metres between coral blocks, to a bank of white gorgonians — turtles and white-tip reef sharks. Sail to Russian Bay.
Early departure for Kalakajoro island, the Radama archipelago’s main dive base: two shallow dives.
Course for “Greg’s Wall”, one of the best-known sites for its underwater flora and fauna: two dives, on the wall and in the cave. Back to Kalakajoro in the evening.
Discovering “Black Wall”, an astonishing forest of black coral inhabited by large groups of pelagic fish.
Two shallow morning dives on a coral plateau where groupers and whale sharks live.
Dawn departure for Nosy Kivinjy, the “Sugar Loaf”: two dives, then back towards Russian Bay.
Two dives on the “5-metre shoal”, looking for whale sharks and manta rays. Lunch, sail to Nosy Be and disembarkation in the late afternoon.
