Four founders, one island: the Madaway story

Four founders, one island: the Madaway story

Born from the fusion of four Italians passionate about travel and Africa, Madaway was founded in 2007 in Diego-Suarez.

In 2007, four Italians passionate about travel and Africa founded Madaway in northern Madagascar, in Antsiranana. Andrea, Mariastella, Elena and Massimiliano — four temperaments, one conviction: the Great Island deserved better than standardised tours sold from the other hemisphere.

What changed

Thanks to the efforts of a highly motivated team, Madaway expanded to cover the whole island: a base on Nosy Be for the cruises, then a branch in the capital, Antananarivo.

What didn't

Tours tested by us before being sold. Direct partnerships with lodges and villages. And Andrea's motto, borrowed from a Malagasy proverb: “If you have only one tooth left, use it to keep smiling.”
