Diving Nosy Be: wrecks, gorgonians and sharks

Our guide to the dive sites around Nosy Be: the wrecks, the stony corals, the gorgonians, the external entrance shoal and Shark Point.

For diving in Madagascar we favour Nosy Be and its rich, diverse archipelago in the Mozambique Channel — a tropical paradise where nature is still unspoiled. We work with many local dive centres, all professional and ready to meet the demands of every kind of diver.

The wrecks

Offshore of Nosy Be, at 26–29 metres, four small-to-medium wrecks colonised by corals: giant groupers, zebra sharks, schools of jackfish, barracudas… Medium visibility — a fantastic site for wreck-diving lovers.

The stony corals

At 20–23 metres, a breathtaking field of hard corals: small white-tip reef sharks, turtles, scorpionfish and crocodile fish.

The gorgonians

On a sandy seabed between 13 and 20 metres, hundreds of huge gorgonians shelter turtles, seahorses, crocodile fish and blue-spotted rays. So beautiful it seems unreal — like entering an artwork.

The external entrance shoal

23 km from Nosy Be (50 minutes by speedboat), a gentle slope from 18 to 60 metres: pelagics (tuna, barracuda, mackerel), grey, zebra and hammerhead sharks. One of the finest sites in the whole archipelago, with good visibility almost all year.

Shark Point

An unspoiled reef away from the coast, 18–50 metres deep with visibility up to 40 metres: white-tip, grey, blacktail and hammerhead sharks, whale sharks, manta rays — and whales between dives.

And much more…

Nosy Iranja, Nosy Tanikely, Nosy Komba, Nosy Sakatia: many more high-quality sites await. Recommended season October to June, water 25–30°C. To go further, board our dive cruises: Mitsio (6 days), Radama (7 days) or Cap St-Sébastien (8 days).
